An Accident and a Lesson

We are on an official business trip from Cagayan de Oro City to Davao City one fair afternoon last August 15, 2009. I enjoyed nature as I take a look at the different views as we go along our way upon riding on a company car.

The joy I felt come into halt when one old man riding on a bicycle swiftly crossed at the highway we are passing by. The car immediately applied the brake and swerve to the left to avoid the crossing bicycle in front of us. Unfortunately we bumped the old man riding on that bicycle and so we stop. Fortunately we just hit the rear tire of the bicycle causing the old man to fall on the ground. So, we brought the old man to the nearby hospital and made the necessary check up, x-ray, laboratory and the medicines needed. And thanks to GOD the old man just have some bruises on his body. After we settled everything, we go on our trip.

As we go on our way, we have some sharing on the situation and to my amazement our boss said that (“buti nalang at Jehovah’s witnesses sila”) it’s just better for us that they are Jehovah’s witnesses. So I ask why? Our boss said, they are cool people and because of that they said nothing that hurts us but peacefully settled everything with us. So, I continued jokingly Sir (“kung Catholic pa sila?”) what if they were Catholics, they would most probably hurt us, he said. And we laughed…

Our boss said that it is just a matter of influence that made them proactive people.

Actually it made me reflect because I am a Catholic. And ask myself what if I was the victim's relative, what would be my initial reaction to the situation? Would it be true that I would most probably be too reactive to the situation?

It made me ask myself:

What influenced my life?
And what influence am I giving to my family, my wife and to my children basically?

What about you, what kind of influence do you seek?
What kind of influence do you give?
