Eliminate Worry and Focus Your Concern

There is nothing your worry can do to impact your fate, if you become concerned about the things you need to gear you forward, you can take control of the uncertainty.

Sharing you all this wonderful article from Jim Stovall.

Worry is a destructive emotion that can cause us to be unhappy, depressed, and physically ill.  Concern is a positive emotion that helps us focus on people and situations where we can make a difference.  If worry causes failure and concern can create success, it becomes imperative that we understand the difference.

Worry is an exercise in futility involving fretting over things in which we have no control.  My airline statement tells me that I have flown over 2 million miles which is more than 80 times around the world.  This is hard to believe and makes me exhausted just thinking about it.  People often ask if I am worried about the risk of flying.  Statistics show us that flying on a commercial airliner is one of the most safe and secure activities in which we can engage.  There is more risk in driving to your local airport than flying around the world; however, if you unduly worry about flying, it can make you depressed and sick.  Unreasonable worry about airline travel can keep you from experiencing the whole world.

I do not worry about air travel because there is nothing I can do about the weather, the mechanical operation of the plane, or the activities of the pilot.  I simply have no control, and therefore, if I focus on the dangers involved, I am experiencing worry and not concern.  I can be concerned about getting to the airport on time, booking the best flights and connections, or selecting the best route of travel for the seasonal weather conditions.  These are aspects of airline travel that are under my control.
I spoke with a gentleman recently who was worried about the corporation he works for failing, and therefore, leaving him unemployed.  He works for a multibillion dollar, multinational organization.  There is nothing his worry can do to impact his fate, but if he will become concerned about updating his resume, renewing his career contacts, and learning about the latest cutting-edge developments in his field, he can take control of the uncertainty.

I don’t mean to imply that there aren’t frightening things in the world, but if we can take control of our emotions, eliminating worry when there’s nothing we can do, and focus our concerns on elements we can change, we can feel empowered and move forward instead of being paralyzed with fear and worry.

As you go through your day today, eliminate worry and focus your concern.
